You are a boss, so act and dress like it!
What does your style say about you? Appearance is not everything, but confidence and how you carry yourself might be. Style is about more than following the newest trends or wearing only designer brands, especially when it comes to business.
The style of a businessman doesn’t have to be stuffy and stiff, it should be an extension of your personality. Here are some quick, easy style tips to look more professional and feel self-assured in every situation.
1. Comfort is key
Make comfort your top priority but that doesn’t mean wearing sweat pants. Nor does it mean only the finest suits every day. Find your happy medium. Try a tailored collared shirt and slim fit pants; it will make you look professional and put together. Or try layering a light sweater or patterned button-up with a sports coat. The key to layering is functionality. Every piece should be able to be worn on it's own. It makes your outfit look like it took time to put together and effort is appealing. This is great way to start introducing some different colors or prints into your wardrobe.
2. Invest in a great pair of shoes
"Shoes make an outfit; they're like rims for a car." -Omari Hardwick
Did you know that people look at your shoes first before looking at your whole outfit? Invest in shoe that is comfortable and ties into the clothes and accessories you already have. If you've never thought about shoes then you are not alone. Next time you are watching tv or walking into the office, take a second and see what other men are wearing. A nice pair of shoes will upgrade your whole outfit.
Once you have your go-to shoes, try pairing them with some interesting socks. A pop of color can be unexpected and enticing.
3. Buy your own pants
The gesture of your significant other/ mother bringing you a bag of clothes is wonderful, but you are a big boy and the time has come to go get your own pants. There is a difference between pants that fit because they are your size and pants that enhance your style. The only way to find that is to try things on. Whether it's in a mall or with a delivery try-then-buy service. Quality over quantity applies here. Get a couple sturdy pairs of whatever you like (dark denim, black jeans, grey slacks) and have them fitted to you. This step can take the pair you found on sale and turn them into a valuable part of your wardrobe.
4. Wear a watch
Everyone should have a watch. A watch is an easy way to make you look responsible and effortlessly stylish. It doesn’t have to be designer either, a sleek watch with a broad, clean face will bring any outfit to the next level.
Style is about how you feel as much as it is about what you wear. You don't have to sign up for a fitness challenge or run a marathon but being active will make you happier. You will be stronger, healthier and feel more accomplished. Health and style go hand in hand. Yes, you might experience some soreness and discomfort but that will reduce with time. Besides, when has success ever come without a little effort and pain?
6. Take good care of your skin
Great skin goes with every outfit. As one gets older, the skin begins to thin, sag and lose its vibrancy. You need to take good care of your skin so you can look alert and healthy all the time. Skin care is not as hard as it seems: daily cleansing and moisturizing is a great place to start but make sure you stick to it. You are not 20 years old anymore so be aware of your skin. You can age quickly or take control of the process and nourish your skin along the way.
7. Eat like a boss
Food plays a very important role in our lives. Looking your best and feeling great always boils down to what you eat. Stay away from processed snacks or fast food. You wear your food choices around your waist as well as on your skin so choose healthy options and drink lots of water.
Always remember you are a leader, and your employees, friends and family members look up to you. Don’t disappoint them by not looking your best.
